Hilary elated in the high country. The start of our steep off trail ascent of Shepherds Crest. Hilary would have never been able to do this trip with a 30 pound pack. With a 13 pound pack it was just doable. On a few of the harder sections I was able to carry both packs - Hilary's on my chest youth hostel style.

Hilary nearing the top of Shepherds Crest. She thinks she looks a bit like Woody Woodpecker in her red balaclava. But at 45 degrees and very windy she needed it to stay warm.

Posing for another of Hilary's tree photos and freezing my behind in the shade. This time, the trees are all wavy in the same pattern.
