The Patagonia Simul Alpine pants are a great option for a lightweight yet ridiculously durable construction. Though they’re designed specifically for climbing, softshells also work great for backpacking. The zippered pockets are deep enough to comfortably carry the essentials. The crotch and knees are gusseted to allow for movement in these areas, and the waistband has a stretchy fabric to accommodate for movement.
