Features

Synthetic loft doesn’t fit into our temperature modeling equation, so we’re left to trust that the comfort rating of 32.2 is as it claims. But a sleeping bag that hold sup to freezing for under $200 is a great value. This is a comparable warmth-to-weight and overall performance to our “Best Under $200” pick, the Kelty Cosmic.

However, there are some downsides. Firstly, synthetic loft is less compressible than down, so we expect this will take up more room in a backpack. What’s more, synthetic loft degrades fast than down, so it might have a slightly shorter lifespan. It’s also heavier. At 38 oz, this is definitely not an ultralight sleeping bag.

You also get lots of features with the Marmot Trestles, including a double separating zipper for ventilation, anti-snag slider, and a draft.

Verdict

There’s a lot going for this backpacking sleeping bag, and it proves that synthetic insulation can keep up with low-to-mid-grade down insulation. Sure it’s a heavy and bulky compared to ultralight gear. But order a trestles Elite Eco and you can feel like you’re doing the planet a solid while saving money.
