Construction & Features

The most unique feature of the Astro Shorts is the hybrid mapped construction. This places a matrix of highly breathable and stretchy Astroman fabric up front, with stretchy, durable, ripstop Ferrosi fabric on the seat. This way you get the benefits of each material where each is optimal. And the whole package is rated to UPF50.

Astro pockets are standard sized, but the opening is large and the stretchiness of the pants creates an unsecure hold on contents. As such, do not store essentials in them if there is a significant chance they will become inverted. But they handle the jostles of everyday use well enough.

The waistband is wide, soft, and extremely comfortable. It comes with an elastic drawstring that can be tied off ensure they stay up. If you choose to tighten them, it will cause the waistband to become slightly wavy and odd looking when not worn. But imperceptible if you have it on.

The men’s pants have a 7″ inseam, women’s is 3.5″. Both are shorter than average, but certainly quite airy and good for warm-weather wear. The men’s version has a bonus zippered thigh pocket, but it’s too small and swingy to store large objects like a phone. But It could hold a few keys, credit cards, gel, or other small object. The women’s version has a zippered rear pocket in a similar size range. Both have a faux fly and reflective logo.
